Frame it

A flat sheet does not have to stand in the scene. It can ride the camera instead, hanging in front of everything like painted glass over the lens. That is a foreground frame: rain streaks, a vignette, a comic border around the whole scene.

The Frame it row

Place a flat sheet, then tap it on the Figs tab: the tab’s form becomes its organizer , and the Frame it row sits there:

• On the lens: the sheet leaves the world and sticks to the camera. It stays in front of everything, wherever the camera turns.
• In the scene: the ordinary state. Un-framing puts the sheet back where it stood.

There is a second door to the same switch: Atmosphere > On display > Frame has a Use your own chip that lists your placed flat sheets, and picking one there flips the same row. The built-in frames live there too: see Atmosphere .

One frame, one shot shape

A frame is made for one shot shape: 1:1, 4:5, 16:9, 9:16, or 3:2. Put a frame up and the shot follows the frame’s shape. Switch the shot to another shape and the frame comes off.

Make a frame… (Atmosphere > On display > Frame) starts a blank sheet fig at the shape you pick. Paint it, and it is a frame that fits that shot.

What makes a good frame

Paint the sheet with plenty of see-through: erase to See-through in Paint and the holes become the window you see the scene through.

• Rain: thin streaks on a see-through sheet.
• Vignette: dark corners, clear middle.
• Comic border: a bold painted frame with a see-through panel.

Frames work on photo scenes too: a rain sheet over a real photograph makes a rainy day anywhere.
