Sound in a clip

Clips have three kinds of sound:

• A sound for one shot, added with + Sound on the shot’s card.
• Music under the whole clip, added with the music icon on the film band (+ ♫ when there is none) or + Music in Clip organizer .
• Voice narration, added with + Narration in the Clip organizer.

The built-in sounds are royalty-free. Other sound comes from the mic or from your files.

The sound board: one sound per shot

+ Sound opens the shot’s sound board (e.g., Sound on Shot 2). The board has eight built-in sounds: Boing, Honk, Pop, Whistle, Ta-da, Thud, Quack, and Scratch. Your own sounds sit in the squares next to them, with Record new, From your files, and None.

• Select a square to hear the sound and give it to the shot. The shot shows ♪ its sound.
• Record new turns on the mic. The board shows Recording… with Done and Never mind. Record, then select Done. The recording joins the board, numbered after the clip’s other sounds (Sound 1, Sound 2, etc.).
• From your files opens your files. Files you pick join the board under their file name.
• None takes the sound off.

Once a sound is on, three rows appear:

• Plays: Plays the sound on This shot or Whole clip. A whole-clip sound loops.
• When: Delays the shot’s sound (At the start, After ½ s, After 1 s, After 2 s). Shots with a pose change also show With the pose change. Shots with a topple show When it hits the ground.
• Voice: Changes the voice. See Voice changers .

Narration

+ Narration records in one go while the clip plays. The clip plays from the current shot (from shot 1 when the last shot is picked) while the mic records. Tap anywhere to stop recording, or let the clip reach its end. The sound saves and plays back from where it started. A new recording replaces the old one. When it’s done, the row changes to Your narration and shows Volume, Voice, Re-record, and Remove.

Music

+ Music opens Add music with Record now and From your files. Files can be up to 10 MB. Music loops under the whole clip. Once added, Music shows Volume, Tap tempo, Swap, and Remove. Tap tempo works for recorded and imported music alike. The film band icon changes to ♫. Select it to open the music settings again.

Tap tempo: Tap three or more times in time with the music to set the BPM. Once set, shot lengths snap to beats. Scene animations set to On the beat keep time with this tempo during playback. See Scene animation .

In the export

Video exports include all the sound (music, shot sounds, narration). GIF exports have no sound.

Recording makes your device ask to use the mic. If you say no, a note says so.
