Lights
The lights in both editors: how a Flatling carries its own glow, and how a diorama is lit as a whole.
Ünflat has two kinds of light, and they meet in the diorama. A flatling carries its own glow: you paint light onto its surface, and it travels with the model everywhere. A diorama is lit as a whole: one sun-style key light for the whole scene. A lantern you painted glowing stays glowing in every diorama you drop it into.
Painting light on a flatling
Light is a mode, not a tool: while it’s on, whatever you fill or paint glows in its color. Two doors, both in the Color phase:
- Fill: flip the Normal | Light switch to Light, pick a color, and tapped faces become glowing panels.
- Paint: tap the Light toggle in the paint toolbar and every stroke of every tool lays glowing pixels. Paint with it off (or erase) to un-light them.
There is no separate light color picker: the glow is the color of the paint. To dim a lamp, paint it a dimmer color.
Shaping the glow: the Light card
Once something glows, the Light edge tab in the Color phase opens the shaping card. Settings are per glowing piece, with a ‹ piece › cycler when several pieces glow:
- Ball is a glowing orb at each lit spot: lanterns, fireflies, potion bottles. Its one lever is size.
- Beam is a cone thrown off the glowing faces: Thin is a flashlight, Wide is a streetlamp. Size, spread, and the aim pad shape it.
Glow shows in the Pocket, Lofi, and Lab render styles . Flat skips lights entirely, on purpose: that style is ink and paper.
Lighting a diorama
The scene’s own light is the sun: the Atmosphere presets (Daylight, Sunset, Night, Overcast, Studio) and the sun puck’s direction, height, brightness, and warmth all drive the same key light.
Placed flatlings bring their painted glow along. Each placed copy has a Glow row with one honest switch: Casting or Off. Off keeps the glowing paint but stops the copy from throwing light into the scene, so one dark lamp can sit in a row of five lit ones.
Paint the glow on the model, shape it on the Light card, and set the scene’s mood with Atmosphere. Night scenes are where painted lights earn their keep.
